The Trinity-Bellwoods neighbourhood is located south of Dundas Street West, north of Queen Street West, east of Ossington Avenue, and west of Bathurst Street.
If the idea of living in a city yet being surrounded by greenery deeply appeals to you, you’ll love the Trinity-Bellwoods neighbourhood. Trinity-Bellwoods is built around the park of the same name. It’s one of the oldest parks in the city, as well as one of the most beautiful. The park is now home to a toboggan run, a dog park, an athletics centre, sports fields, and a playground.
The neighbourhood was originally part of a tract of land belonging to Captain Samuel Smith at the beginning of the 1800s. By the middle part of that century, it was the site of the original Trinity College (now part of the University of Toronto). While the college’s buildings were demolished decades ago, the stone and iron fence still stands as a testament to the area’s heritage.
Trinity-Bellwoods has undergone some demographic shifts since its founding. Part of the neighbourhood is known as Little Portugal, home to Portuguese (and now Brazilian) immigrants. Another part is Little Italy, where the city’s first Italian immigrants settled and where many proud Italian-Canadians live today.
In addition to the area’s southern European flavour, Trinity-Bellwoods is filled with art galleries, antique shops, and many options for fine dining.
